Yazidis are ethnoreligious group in Iraq. They speak Kurmanji. These people are minority in Iraq, Syria and Turkey. According to Armenian anthropologist Levon Abrahamian, Yazidis generally believe that Muslim Kurds betrayed Yazidism by converting to Islam, while Yazidis remained faithful to the religion of their ancestors. In Iraq and Armenia, the Yazidis are recognized as an ethnic group.
Nadia Murad belongs to Yazidi ethnic and religious minority in Iraq. Her father was a farmer in Kojo, Iraq. She was 19, ISIS attacked her village and killed 600 Yazidi men including her family members. She and other women were taken and were raped and physically tortured. She some how managed to escape and took shelter in refugee camp. There she got an opportunity to move to Germany.
A group of survivors including Nadia Murad, met Donal Trump in the Oval Office. She explained how her six brother and mother were killed. She further mentioned 3000 Yazidis are still missing.
In reaction, Donald Trump, questioned her: "And you had the Nobel Prize? That's incredible. They gave it to you for what reason?"
After a bit pause, she repeated her story again.
"After all this happened to me, I didn't give up. I make it clear to everyone that ISIS raped thousands of Yazidi women," she said.
"Please do something. It's not about one family," she said.
She asked him to pressurize Iraqi and Kurdish governments to provide absolute protection and complete freedom for the Yazidis to return. Murad also explained how Yazidis took dangerous routes to find safety in Germany, whose welcome to refugees has been vocally criticized by Trump.
